What is Reflux?
Reflux is the backflow of acid from the stomach into the gullet (“foodpipe”) which may become inflamed and painful. This may cause you symptoms such as a painful sensation in the chest rising up to your throat (heartburn) and a sour taste in the mouth (acid regurgitation).
Do I get instant relief from taking a Nexium tablet?
Nexium Control is not meant to bring immediate relief. You may need to take the tablets for 2-3 days in a row before you feel better. You must talk to a doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after 14 days.
How much to take• The recommended dose is one tablet a day. • Do not take more than this recommended dose of one tablet (20 mg) a day, even if you don’t feel an improvement immediately. • You may need to take the tablets for 2 or 3 days in a row before your reflux symptoms (for example, heartburn and acid regurgitation) get better. • The treatment length is up to 14 days. • When your reflux symptoms have completely gone you should stop taking this medicine. • If your reflux symptoms get worse or do not improve after taking this medicine for 14 days in a row, you should consult a doctor. If you have persistent or longstanding, frequently recurring symptoms even after treatment with this medicine, you should contact your doctor. Taking this medicine • You can take your tablet at any time of the day either with food or on an empty stomach. • Swallow your tablet whole with half a glass of water. Do not chew or crush the tablet. This is because the tablet contains coated pellets, which stop the medicine from being broken down by the acid in your stomach. It is important not to damage the pellets.
Alternative method of taking this medicine• Put the tablet in a glass of still (non-fizzy) water. Do not use any other liquids. • Stir until the tablet breaks up (the mixture will not be clear) then drink the mixture straight away or within 30 minutes. Always stir the mixture just before drinking it. • To make sure that you have drunk all of the medicine, rinse the glass very well with half a glass of water and drink it. The solid pieces contain the medicine – do not chew or crush them

LONDON, Dec. 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Novartis Pharmaceuticals SA has filed a complaint with the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) seeking disclosure of the active ingredients in the prescription drug Nexium and in a similar product in a product class called "Non-Pharma Medication Products."
The U. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in London has affirmed the FDA's order in the case of Novartis' patent for the treatment of acid reflux. The patent was for a prescription drug for heartburn, and the patent was for Nexium, an acid-suppressing drug used to treat heartburn. The patent on Nexium was transferred to Novartis in December 2012. Novartis sought a court order to exclude the patent from its market as a result of a significant reduction in the volume of Nexium prescriptions. Novartis requested a class certification in the patent and requested a court order to hold the patent invalid.
"We have concluded that the patent for Nexium, which is currently pending in the U. S., does not invalidate any of Novartis' products. We have also determined that the patent is invalid, and therefore, the claims are invalid," said David W. Butts, the company's director of worldwide marketing.
Under the terms of the patents, Novartis may sell its Nexium prescription medication to treat acid reflux, but its Nexium product will be sold in a different form. The product is also used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
Novartis will receive a final determination of the patent on Nexium and will continue to market Nexium in that form until the patent is resolved. For the future marketing of Nexium in a form other than that of the product, Novartis may begin to market a generic form of the product. The generic form of Nexium will not be covered by the U. patent.
patent for Nexium is valid and enforceable for a period of six months from the date of the first application filed for the patent. patent covers Nexium for acid reflux, which is the major indication of acid reflux, and in which Nexium is used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
Novartis will file the U. application for the Nexium prescription in December, 2014. Novartis will continue to market Nexium in the generic form until the patent is resolved.
patent for Nexium expires on Dec. 31, 2016, at which time it will be valid and enforceable for a period of six months. patent will expire on Dec. 31, 2016.
